That seems like the killer combination for indie, to make sure that the process stays honest and the goals realistic.Tired of our usual excursions in Torchlight II, or Minecraft, or wine, Lady Rossignol and I needed something of a fresh video-distraction for the weekend evenings. Pardon the plug, but I've been following on twitch, and they've got a 2 person operation: a 3d modeler/world building artist, and a programmer. I think it comes from undervaluing writing and game art creation, and I'll be the first to admit that I suffer from that as well, but we really need to see more games made by dev + creative types. It seems like a lot of indie games suffer from this "if I make the right game engine, the content will come" but that really only works for concept games. Game engines are hard, don't get me wrong, but turning an engine into a fully fleshed out story and game is an equally difficult and (in many cases) more time consuming endeavor. The dev has planned 4 versions of game engine enhancement, and one version iteration for "story". You can see the disconnect when you look at something similar like voxatron that /u/japan_samsus linked to bellow. People will likely give me shit over this post because there are good examples of Kickstarter and Early Access done right but I'm burnt out on it all. I just miss the days when games actually came out. You aren't guaranteed to a finished product. When you buy an unfinished game from Kickstarter, Early Access, or anything labeled "Alpha" you are literally buying the idea of a game. More and more people are using Kickstarter and Early Access as a preordering service and not what it actually is. A lot of people seem to not understand just how much things like this and Early Access are ruining the industry. I don't know whether if it was malicious and he fooled a bunch of people on purpose or if it was an unintended side effect of people misunderstanding what an alpha is.
Reddit cube world update#
hopefully at some point wollay will update the game with more content other than visual updates.įrom the way everyone talks it made a decent chunk of money in a short amount of time and the developer more or less went AWOL. Only thing that kept me playing as long as i did was to see the new skills or to wear a unique+ rarity item that i found.ģ.i would not recommend buying the game, it has alot of potential but at the same time i would let other people play it and feel it out. Its 100% grind with no reward or progression. The concept of designing your own items with cubes is very basic and limitedĢ.Basically what made me stop was it was like playing a mmo that only has the barebones, even then it was lacking what most mmos you can find online to have. In game currency is abundant but not used for anything Game itself is very grindy, youre literally just killing mobs from 1 to forever, with no other way to get expeience (other than killing quest mobs) Skills are very limited and seem to lack a variety all quests are basically going to kill a boss in a area. Very limited quest system, about 1 per town and marked "quests" on maps to kill bosses. Very basic town system (basic stores: potions, weapons, armors, crafting stations) Its pretty much a bare mmo type game so far. So basically, we all just assume that Wollay went "Fuck it!" and kept the millions he made off of the release of his game.ġ.The game hasn't been updated in a long time. Everyone's given up on the game being updated at all, and the forums shut down a couple months ago. But it's now been over a year since Wollay last updated us on our progress. Most of us were used to Wollay pulling this shit, so we waited. Wollay started keeping us informed on his progress with the game for about a month, but he stopped frequently keeping us informed after that.

We all thought it was no big deal since it was in alpha, and that Wollay would update it. When it came back up and everyone had a chance to play, we all realized how repetitive the game was. When the game finally came out, the site was down for about a week. A lot of us doubted the game was ever going to come out. We'd go months without a single update on the progress of the game. However, Wollay had a major problem communicating with the fan base.

Copied from another thread I posted in about this.Īlright, so Cubeworld looked like a reaaally promising game for a while.
